At SPEAR, our passion is to bring people back to life, and that extends well beyond the traditional workday. This desire to give back is evident not only in the way we interact with our patients but also in the way we commit our time outside of the clinics.
Join Team SPEAR in March as we gear up for a fight against cancer. Led by SPEAR’s own Dr. Phaeleau Cunneen of our 44th street location, Cycle for Survival—in partnership with Equinox and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center—is an extraordinary event that aims to raise funds for rare cancer research.
Team SPEAR will cycle on March 6, 2015 from 6-10 pm at the Bryant Park Equinox gym. Riding against cancer will be Dr. Phaeleau Cunneen, Dr. Joseph Costello, Dr. Arielle Gladowsky, Dr. Kristin Gucwa, Dr. Jason Kang, Dr. Abby Karpinsky, Dr. Ryan Kitzen, Dr. Joseph Martinez, Dr. Alissa Namm, Dr. Laura Muzzatti, Dr. Sara Tabia, and Dr. Lisa Yirce. Each therapist will take turns cycling, relay style. Team SPEAR will ride for a total of eight hours, raising up to $2,000 for rare cancer research.
One hundred percent of funds raised will go directly towards lifesaving research within six months of the event. Since 2007, Cycle for Survival has contributed to over 100 clinical trials and research studies and has raised nearly $57 million in the fight against rare cancers.
Riding for Better Treatments
Team SPEAR wants to help eradicate rare cancers, which are more common than you might think. In fact, cancers like lymphoma, leukemia, pediatric, ovarian and pancreatic afflict half of all cancer patients, but are severely lacking in treatment options due to inadequate research funding. As part of Team SPEAR, we are passionate about this opportunity to help advance treatments of rare cancers, and to make a difference in millions of lives.
According to team organizer and SPEAR Physical Therapist Dr. Phaeleau Cunneen, “Organizing and being part of a great fundraising program such as Cycle for Survival makes me feel like I am contributing to a worthy cause. I feel like I am part of the solution.”
You can be part of the solution, too. Join the battle by donating to our ride. Even small amounts will go a long way. Together, we can do our part to make a positive impact in the fight against cancer.
