Tori Canning is a physical therapist at SPEAR’s Williamsburg location. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Long Island University in Brooklyn, and her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Indiana University. In physical therapy school, Tori took a series of musculoskeletal, neurological and psychologically based courses that prepared her to work in the outpatient orthopedic setting and provide treatment to individuals using a holistic approach. Additionally, Tori became certified as a strength and conditioning specialist to improve her ability to create sport specific programming when working with the athletic population.
Tori has experience working with a variety of patient populations in the outpatient sports and orthopedic setting, where she treated individuals recovering from surgery, following athletic injuries, as well as patients living with progressive and degenerative disease. Additionally, Tori has experience working in the cardiac ICU where she provided cardiopulmonary rehabilitation to patients following cardiac surgery.
Tori is passionate about working with the athletic population and helping individuals return to doing what they love. She believes in creating positive and constructive relationships with her patients in order to provide them with the tools that they need to be independent outside of the clinic. She is committed to working as a team with her patients at every step of recovery. This includes creating goals together that encompass the individual’s interests, and assisting the individual in making lifestyle modifications to promote health and maximize efficacy.
In her free time, Tori enjoys living an active lifestyle through weightlifting, trying new exercise classes, and going on walks. She also enjoys trying new restaurants in the city, reading, and spending time with her friends and family.
