Marissa Cotroneo earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University and her bachelors degree in Biological Psychology from Pace University. While completing her degree, Marissa earned her certification as a personal trainer and as a Certified Functional Strength Coach. She has used this to gain experience training a wide age range of clients as well as numerous ice hockey teams. During her clinical rotations, Marissa gained experience in post-operative treatments, orthopedics, neurological rehabilitation, amputation rehabilitation, and cardiovascular rehabilitation.
Since elementary school Marissa’s favorite subject has always been science but her true interest in physical therapy sparked after spending years participating in cross country and track and field from 7th grade all the way through college. Throughout the years of competing in races Marissa got numerous injuries and ended up in physical therapy. While spending months in physical therapy, Marissa got a glimpse of the significant impact PT can have on someone’s life. Moreover, how having an understanding of your body and the right exercises to perform could advance you in your sport or hobby. Marissa’s goal at Spear Physical Therapy is to treat every patient uniquely and help them get back to doing what they love.
In her free time, you will find Marissa hiking, rock climbing, running, or exploring the city for new foods to try.
