Elise graduated with an Associate’s of Occupational Studies in Massage Therapy from the New York College of Health Professions in 1999. As an active member of the New York State Society of Medical Massage Therapists, she is constantly updating her skill set through formal continuing education coursework and regular networking with other practitioners.
Elise earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Women’s Studies from Pennsylvania State University in 1986. Prior to her career in the healing arts, Elise worked in social services as a Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Victim’s Counselor for Victim’s Services Agency in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
Former hometown track star (specializing in middle distances of 800 meters and 1,000 meters) who competed on the statewide level as a high schooler, Elise left the competitive world of track and field upon entering college. She continued running, but focused on recreational long distance and trail running with the occasional road race. Elise has also been a competitive endurance mountain bike racer (competing in 24hour races in solo, 2-person and 5-person categories). An avid world traveler, Elise enjoys hiking wherever she lands, most recently trekking from village to village at 12,000 altitude in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, México.
A hatha yoga practitioner since 1989 with a daily home practice since 2001, Elise is also a National Yoga Alliance Certified Instructor, having completed two 200 hour yoga teacher training programs (Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga). Elise is certified to teach Hatha, Kundalini, Pre/Postnatal, Yin and Restorative Yoga. She teaches classes in a variety of studios in NYC, at NYU Medical Center’s Initiative for Women with Disabilities, and also at retreat centers such as Omega Institute (Rhinebeck, NY) and Mar de Jade (Chacala, México). As a complement to her yoga practice, Elise dabbles in Qi Gong and t’ai chi. Yoga and other contemplative movement practices highly inform her understanding of the body, how breath affects the tissues and how to help her clients live with more ease and less discomfort.
Elise enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring the world, including her beloved Big Apple! For fun and fitness, Elise spends a big chunk of her free time taking dance classes here in New York (belly dance, Afro Cuban and salsa), ice skating in Bryant Park on winter mornings, and road cycling in the Hudson Valley in the summers.
