Physical Therapist - PT, DPT

Ryan Tierney, PT, DPT

Financial District - 30 Broad

Ryan is a dedicated physical therapist with a strong background in both athletics and healthcare. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with a Pre-Physical Therapy concentration from Manhattan University, where he competed at the NCAA Division I level in Cross Country and Track & Field for all four years. This experience helped him develop a strong work ethic, discipline, and a deep understanding of what it takes to balance rigorous training with high-level competition. He then went on to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The College of Staten Island, where he continued to refine his knowledge and clinical skills.

Throughout his graduate education, Ryan completed several clinical rotations across diverse settings. One of his most memorable experiences was at the SPEAR 30 Broad St. clinic, where he worked closely with patients in an outpatient environment, developing individualized treatment plans to help them achieve their goals. He also gained extensive experience in the acute care setting, treating patients in critical care units, including those recovering from cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and other complex medical conditions. Additionally, he completed a rotation in Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation, focusing on post-stroke rehabilitation and helping patients regain their independence and quality of life.

Alongside his work as a physical therapist, Ryan has a deep personal and professional passion for running. Having competed at a high level himself, he understands the physical demands of the sport—from endurance training to injury prevention. His experience enables him to connect with athletes and individuals at various stages of fitness, offering tailored advice and rehabilitation to help them reach their goals. Currently, he coaches Cross Country and Track & Field at The College of Staten Island, an NCAA Division II program. This coaching role allows him to combine his love for the sport with his professional expertise, mentoring athletes in their training and development. Whether assisting a runner recovering from an injury or coaching newcomers to the sport, Ryan uses his unique blend of athletic experience and physical therapy knowledge to provide holistic care that enhances both performance and recovery.

In his free time, Ryan enjoys weight lifting, bird watching, going on nature walks, and reading books.
