Physical Therapist Assistant - PTA
Maidy Garcia, PTA
Upper West Side - W 82nd St
Maidy earned her degree in physical therapy in 2008 in Barranquilla, Colombia, where she began her career working with children with special needs, including those with autism and developmental delays. After relocating to the United States, she obtained her Physical Therapist Assistant license and has since worked across a variety of clinical settings. Maidy also served as a Clinic Director, gaining valuable experience in leadership, patient engagement, and team development.
She holds certifications in APOS Therapy, Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), and LSVT BIG, which she integrates into her personalized treatment plans. She has extensive experience in orthopedic rehabilitation and balance training, with a special focus on supporting older adults in improving strength, function, and confidence.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, Maidy connects easily with a diverse patient population and is currently learning Italian. She is also the creator of The PT Diary Project, a blog dedicated to helping foreign-educated physical therapists navigate licensure and career development in the United States.
Outside the clinic, Maidy enjoys reading, cooking, riding her bike, and practicing calisthenics. Her passion for calisthenics and mobility training stems from a personal goal to improve health and quality of life—and to explore new movement strategies she can apply in her treatments to help patients move better and feel stronger.
