Kristen Markoe earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Hunter College in the Macaulay Honors College Program with academic honor, Magna Cum Laude. Kristen continued her education at Hunter College in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program with the highest academic honor of Summa Cum Laude. Kristen’s 3 year capstone project for Hunter College PT program, “Effects of Kinesiophobia on Length of Stay and Recovery Outcomes in Patients after Total Knee Arthroplasty in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Setting” was selected by the American Physical Therapy Association, as she presented her dissertation platform at the Combined Sections Meeting 2017.

During Kristen’s schooling in the Physical Therapy program, she completed clinical rotations in multiple settings including NYU Langone Tisch Inpatient Acute Care Hospital, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Hospital, and outpatient orthopedic facilities including Cynergy Physical Therapy and Professional Physical Therapy. Kristen decided to further her experience in the field of Physical Therapy by receiving her certification as a Pilates Mat Instructor, completing the IPA’s Core First Strategies course, and becoming an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Kristen also volunteered for the spinal mobility program as a section leader providing physical therapy sessions to spinal cord injury patients.

Throughout Kristen’s 7 years at Hunter College, she was a 4-year starter and captain for the Hunter College Women’s Basketball team. Kristen currently holds individual records including 2nd all-time in most career points for women’s basketball with 1,751 points and the first male or female player in the history of basketball at Hunter College to record over 1,000 rebounds (1,046 rebounds). Kristen was also named CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, CUNYAC Player of the Year, ECAC Player of the Year and Honorable Mention Academic All-American throughout her career. After playing for 4 years, Kristen joined the coaching staff and has been an Assistant Coach for the Hunter College Women’s Basketball team for 2 years. Kristen is heavily involved in player skill development and the team’s conditioning program; focusing on injury prevention through proper body mechanics in warm up techniques and strength/agility/stamina workouts to improve performance of the athletes. Throughout Kristen’s basketball career, she sustained multiple injuries including a dislocated shoulder, broken ankle and torn ACL, which required reconstructive surgery. Completing the rehabilitation process for each multiple injuries sparked Kristen’s interest in Physical Therapy.

Kristen’s clinical interests include rehabilitating orthopedic and neurological disorders using clinical knowledge and experience, manual therapy techniques, and the most recent evidence to rehabilitate patients to their full functional potential providing an individualized and positive experience throughout their recovery. As an avid sports enthusiast, Kristen watches all sporting events in her spare time and continues to stay active by training for and completing half marathons, Spartan obstacle course races and playing basketball with her best friends.
