Joren earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Columbia University. During his time at Columbia, Joren took part in Columbia Runlab, a premier running performance lab working alongside fellow DPT students under the guidance of Dr. Colleen Brough, providing full running analysis along with recommendations for improving performance. Joren selected the Advanced Neurological Rehabilitation Track, where he spent the last semester of his studies participating in specialty neurological clinics such as acute stroke, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and rehab medicine. Joren also served as his class social chair along with elective courses in performing arts, foot and ankle, pelvic floor, vestibular rehab, and medical Spanish. He was also a member of the Columbia Sports Research Team with whom he had the opportunity to present their research, “Transverse Plane Kinematics in Lightweight Rowers: The Hips Don’t Lie”. Joren also has a passion for social justice, participating in Columbia’s Social Justice Coalition. He hopes to continue advocating and practicing allyship to marginalized communities and hopes to help bridge the gap to provide equitable care for all individuals. Joren received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Human Health and Performance from The University of La Verne.
Joren was originally a musical theatre major at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles. During his time at AMDA, he woke up one day with Bell’s Palsy and decided to pivot into new career opportunities. At the time, he was also working at the Disneyland Resort in California as a performer where he was injured and received PT treatment for both Bell’s Palsy and his performance injury. Being exposed to the world of performing arts PT, Joren began his journey to become a physical therapist.
Joren has clinical experience treating spinal cord injuries, patients with limb loss, running, various neurological diagnoses, and pediatric patients, and also works as a Certified Personal Trainer. Through his clinical experiences, Joren has found a newfound passion for working with the neurological pediatric population and hopes to combine his orthopedic and neurological care skills to provide care for underserved pediatric populations.
Outside of clinic, Joren spends his days exploring the city with his cat, Ivy, reading books, and finding new food spots with his besties. He stays active by participating in strength training and has recently begun his “running era” where he hopes to eventually run the NY Marathon.
