John Mackarey is Clinical Director of, and Physical Therapist at, Spear’s Long Island City – CityView clinic. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. During his time at Temple University, his clinical experience included cardiopulmonary ICU, vestibular/balance, orthopedics, and neurological rehabilitation. These experiences fostered a passion for evidence-based treatment with a special interest in low back and vestibular disorders. It is his intent to formulate treatment plans using the most current physical therapy approaches, supported through research. John implements a variety of manual therapy techniques that are individualized for each of his patients which helps expedite their recovery.
John developed a passion for physical therapy at a very young age. He was raised in a family of physical therapists and has been working in a physical therapy clinic since he was 14 years old. Over the years working in these clinics, John developed a love for the unique and ever-changing body of knowledge that defines the profession of physical therapy: an active, dynamic, patient-oriented approach to health and wellness grounded in current wisdom. Furthermore, he values above all, the relationships and personal connections that he establishes with the patients and families he serves.
In his free time, John enjoys traveling, cooking, hiking, biking, skiing, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
