Emily is originally from Des Moines, Iowa and earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Regis University in Denver, CO, where she received advanced training in manual therapy. During this time, she was heavily involved with advocacy for the physical therapy profession, going to Washington D.C. to lobby for bills promoting better patient care. Recently, Emily has become a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist. Prior to venturing into physical therapy, Emily spent many years teaching Pilates and dancing both in New York and Denver, performing with a variety of companies and producing her own work as well. Her original works were selected to be performed in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Denver.
Emily’s love for contemporary dance started with her undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance, with Honors. There, she had the opportunity to study with many excellent choreographers and guest instructors from all over the U.S. and around the world. It was at the American Dance Festival, while rehearsing a Mark Morris work, that she suffered an ankle injury that introduced her to the benefits of physical therapy!
Emily has been a practicing physical therapist for the last six years in Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and now in New York City. Her experience is in the orthopedic setting; she enjoys working with all ages, as well as being able to incorporate her Pilates experience into patient care. She loves and specializes in treating dancers of all types and circus artists. Emily enjoys taking dance and aerial silks classes, as well as bike riding, snowboarding and traveling.
