Akshita Shetty, PT, DPT

Akshita earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from K.J. Somaiya College of Physiotherapy in Mumbai, India, and her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston. During her studies, she developed a keen interest in neurological and geriatric rehabilitation. She later completed her transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy at A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Missouri.

Akshita began her career in New York City, providing outpatient physical therapy services to the geriatric population in their homes for five years. She developed expertise in treating individuals with Parkinson’s disease, dementia, stroke-related weakness, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and balance impairments. In addition to patient care, she mentored new clinicians and students, helping them grow their clinical confidence and skills.

Seeking to expand her clinical scope, Akshita joined Montefiore Medical Center, an acute care hospital, where she worked for three years treating patients with a variety of conditions, including cardiovascular, neurological, and respiratory illnesses, as well as post-surgical cases such as amputations and joint or spine surgeries. Working with an underserved population deepened her understanding of how social determinants of health influence recovery. This strengthened her commitment to promoting equitable care and functional independence across all stages of recovery.

Having gained extensive experience across both home-based and inpatient settings, Akshita now aims to expand her expertise in outpatient care—helping individuals achieve optimal recovery, prevent re-injury, and improve their overall quality of life through education, empowerment, and evidence-based practice.

Outside of work, Akshita enjoys traveling, reading, exploring new crafts, discovering new restaurants, and spending time with her husband, friends, and two adorable cats.
