Diastasis Recti occurs when the abdominal muscles separate from each other and is the most common among pregnant people as the fetus gets larger. Other causes could be:

  • Frequent or rapid weight fluctuations
  • Genetics
  • Poor training technique or overloading the core while weightlifting

Common Signs & Symptoms

  • Visible separation of the abdominal muscles
  • Feeling of weakness in the abdominal muscles
  • Low back, pelvic, or hip pain

How Will Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy Help?

During a Physical/Occupational Therapy session, you will:

  • Learn to modify daily activities.
  • Strengthen core muscles through posture training, therapeutic exercise, and breathing.
  • Utilize bracing to support and re-shape the abdominal muscles.
