Dr. Hiam Abbas brings a unique global perspective to physical therapy, combining her diverse educational background with specialized clinical expertise. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she completed the Advanced Track in Neurological and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and was recognized with a Merit Scholarship. Prior to her career in healthcare, Dr. Abbas earned an MSc in International Development Studies from the London School of Economics and a BA in Economics and Political Science from Macalester College.

With over nine years of clinical experience, Dr. Abbas has developed expertise across diverse settings, from pediatric care to acute hospital medicine. She has provided specialized treatment at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NYU Langone Medical Center, and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Her clinical focus encompasses neurological rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary care and acute care, with particular experience treating patients with complex medical conditions. Dr. Abbas has also dedicated time to pediatric care, designing individualized treatment programs for children with disabilities both in school and home settings.

Before transitioning to physical therapy, Dr. Abbas worked internationally with the World Bank, developing projects across sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and South Asia to improve services for urban communities. This global experience enables her to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds. Dr. Abbas’s non-traditional path to healthcare brings a holistic, culturally sensitive approach to patient care that recognizes the broader social and economic factors affecting health and recovery.
