Matthew earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from SUNY Upstate Medical University after receiving his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology from Syracuse University. While completing his graduate studies, he took on a research fellowship position in which he assisted in carrying out a study on the feasibility and effectiveness of Taekwondo as a community-based exercise medium for people with Parkinson’s Disease. That research has since been published in the Parkinsonism and Related Disorders Journal. Matthew also spent time volunteering with Empower Parkinson at their RockSteady Boxing location in Syracuse, where he gained further experience working with the Parkinson’s population by coaching participants through exercise circuits.
Matthew became interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy while his mother underwent rehabilitation after having spine surgery. Seeing her regain her function inspired him to want to be able to have that same impact on others. Throughout his education, Matthew spent a lot of time treating various sports-related injuries and orthopedic conditions in outpatient settings. He also gained experience treating neurological conditions including spinal cord injury, stroke, and traumatic brain injury in the inpatient rehabilitation setting. Matthew is passionate about helping people recover and regain function while building strong connections with his patients to help foster a trusting relationship and an enjoyable experience.
Matthew grew up on Long Island in Huntington, NY, and is excited about moving back downstate from Syracuse to begin his career. While at home, Matthew serves as a volunteer firefighter in his community alongside his brother, father, grandfather, and cousins. In his free time, he enjoys going on runs, listening to music, skiing, eating good food, and spending time with friends and family.
