Alyssa is a proud First-Generation Filipina-American Doctor of Physical Therapy. She attended Ithaca College in upstate New York where she earned both her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Bachelors of Science in Clinical Health Studies with a Minor in Dance. While at Ithaca, Alyssa was a member of the Ithaca College Physical Therapy Students of Color Association and worked as a teacher’s assistant for both Neuroscience and Neuro Rehab. She volunteered at Fall Prevention Workshops as well as Ithaca College’s Performing Arts Walk-in Clinic. She was also a part of the PT/Strength and Conditioning team in IC Theatre and Dance’s fall production of The Wolves. Alyssa received both the Graduate Professional Excellence Award and Dubois/Mandela Award for Scholarship, Leadership, and Service from Ithaca College for her contributions to both the PT department and the Ithaca College community.
Alyssa grew up as a performer starting dance at the age of 3, singing with her church choir, joining a competitive cheerleading team, performing in high school musicals, and choreographing and performing her own pieces in a dance company throughout college and PT school. She has trained in all types of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatics, contemporary, street styles, musical theatre, and ballroom. As an innate nurturer and caretaker, Alyssa knew she wanted to join the health care system and help others. She studied exercise physiology and personal training at her local vocational high school, which introduced her to the world of physical therapy as her future career. She loved the idea of combining her two passions of performing arts and physical therapy to help other performers return to the stage feeling strong and confident in their bodies. Alyssa has experience treating various populations and conditions including orthopedic injuries, post-stroke patients and post-TKA and THA patients. She gained many clinical experiences as a student through volunteering as well as her clinical affiliations including Inpatient Rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center and Outpatient Orthopedics at Spear’s Center for Performing Arts.
Alyssa is very excited to provide inclusive and quality care to performing artists and patients to help them enhance their health and wellness onstage and in their everyday life! When she is not in the clinic, you can find Alyssa taking a dance class, spending time with family and friends, indoor rock climbing, reading or at a coffee shop working on passion projects!
